Rhino Charge 2017

rhino charge

Tomorrow, Saturday 3rd June, five brave men will be taking part in The Rhino Charge, an annual off road 4×4 competition in Kenya to raise money for the Rhino Ark Charitable Trust, an NGO which works towards the conservation and protection of Kenya’s mountain range ecosystems. This year Kinetic Six are thrilled to be supporting them, alongside Raging Bull, as one of their official sponsors. The Rhino Charge is a race in which entrants are required to visit 13 guard posts scattered over approximately 100 km² of rough terrain, deep in the Kenyan Bush, within 10 hours. The night before the event, entrants are supplied with a map of the venue, co-ordinates of the 13 points and their start position. Each competitor must plot the guard posts on the map and decide his/her route. The winner is the competitor who visits the most guard posts in the shortest distance.

The race has been running since February 1989, with Travers Allison winning the first ever race in a Suzuki jeep. Since then, the race has grown every year, with hundreds of participants raising millions of Kenyan shillings to Rhino Arc.

This year Kinetic Six and Raging Bull are joining forces to sponsor Car 36: the Aberdair Devils. We have donated some kit for the team to wear and are tracking their journey through the race.

The team – Adrian Wilcox, Andrew Gay, Tarek Keshavjee, SJ Kok and Seb McKinlay – are already well on their way to achieving their fundraising target, and with only one day until the big event, are doing one last push. All donations go directly to Rhino Arc as the team are covering all the participation costs themselves.
